Is it built for a heavier placement?
Yes. The compact, heavily weighted design puts cement inside the patented base, so no added weight, ballast or anchor is needed. DT described the StoutHouse as “very heavy and quite sturdy” and reported fish around it frequently.
Can I combine it with finer cover?
Bend the limbs by hand into an abstract profile, then group it with other shallow fish habitat. Stan Kent mixed five StoutHouse units with two Cradle four-packs and reported fry and small fish around the complex. This mix adds different heights and opening sizes rather than repeating the same shape throughout your pond or lake.
