Build tall fish cribs with shade outside and dense refuge inside

Create four six-foot DIY fish cribs using wide, flexible Shleaf panels, narrow strips and fine strands. The varied reclaimed PVC adds broad shade, tight center protection and different openings for freshwater fish—useful detail for DIY crappie structure beyond a few widely spaced branches.

Your kit includes

  • Four 10-inch base containers
  • Twelve 72-inch Shleafs, sixteen 60-inch Shleafs and sixteen 48-inch Shleafs
  • Twelve 36-inch flat pieces and twenty-four narrow strips
  • Dozens of fine strands
  • More than 200 square feet of total surface area
  • Approximately 50 square feet per completed crib

What do I add, and how heavy are the finished cribs?

You supply brick mortar or a suitable cement mix. Divide the material among the four containers and set it securely. Fishiding’s half-filled example weighed around 25 pounds; a filled container increased the example to about 45 pounds. Let the bases cure before transport and placement.

Why use reclaimed habitat materials?

ABM’s February 2026 review praised the natural-like fish refuge, value and keeping vinyl out of landfills, after three rounds of purchases in forty days.
