Protection for the youngest fish in the system
Give newly hatched fish dense refuge with small openings that restrict larger predators’ access. The Ultra Fine Cradle uses especially thin reclaimed PVC strands to create fine, grass-like protection for fry in shallow freshwater, with textured growing surfaces for algae, periphyton and the tiny aquatic life around them.
Fine cover, ready to open
- 30 inches tall and 60 inches across when open
- Recommended freshwater depth: 2–6 feet
- Approximately 40 square feet of surface area
- Approximately 10 pounds
- About 20% more surface area than the original Cradle, as described in the current product specifications
- Pre-bent and self-opening after tie removal
Is it really for small fish?
Brian D Hoefer reported that his units gave fish “immediate refuge from the bass in the pond.” Dense openings make this artificial fish habitat especially suited to a shallow nursery, rather than replacing taller cover for larger fish.
Does reclaimed material mean extra work?
No. Remove the retaining tie and let the unit open; no tools or assembly are required. Cement is built into the base, so no additional anchor or ballast is needed. The flexible strands move with waves and current. Mix with original Cradles or Fortress units for varied openings and heights.
Compare the original Cradle for a different strand density, or choose the Cradle Variety Four Pack for both models together.
